Kurt,
Just a quick correction. From what I have read, the 9 and its attendant cars were not leased to the Black Hills Central.
According to published stories, Ralph Budd, president of the CB&Q was good friends with Elliott C. Donnely, original owner of the Black Hills Central. Budd gave the equipment do Donnely to run on the Black Hills Central. This "loan" never left the property until 1988. This was long after Budd's and Donnely's passing. The railroad had fallen into the hands of Bill Heckman, who did everything that he could to keep the C&S equipment when it was formally donated to the State Historical Society of Colorado. What Heckman did to the equipment is a long and unpleasant story and will not be recounted by me.
