When I was an Air Force photographer/photojournalist in film days, the first zoom lens were not very good. I usually carried two Nikons FTN or F2, one with a 35 mm and the other with a 135mm (those were standard issue Air Force lenses). Usually had a 50mm 1.4 in my pocket or camera bag. When I think back to those days, could have shot so much more with digital and the great zoom lenses we have today. So many of the great railroad photographers got great images with limited equipment and slow films.
