Thanks for the infos. After checking some books, it seems that low pressure steam heating systems used much more steam than high pressure systems, because the valve on the last car had to be open to keep the steam flowing thru the train. I remember seeing steam heated trains of all gauges in Eastern Germany in the late 80's and the esacaping steam from the last car...... a beautiful sight on a crisp winter morning.
