From day 2 of the NN winter shoot - On a gloomy winter morning in the Steptoe Valley, Nevada Northern's 4-6-0 #40 is on the main line from Cobre approaching Hi Line Junction with a mixed train headed to Ely. The Hi Line tracks which run to the former smelter in McGill are in the foreground. 2020 Nevada Northern winter photography weekend.
I've used an avatar shot by a friend up at the Georgetown Loop in 2004 for, well, forever it seems so I thought maybe I should finally change given this IS 2020. The new avatar was snapped by my son during day 3 of the NN winter shoot. Below is the shot I captured from that location.
#40 Stepping out in the Steptoe Valley. The final day of the Nevada Northern winter photo weekend brought flawless blue skies and moderate temperatures. Our morning mixed train went out on the Hi Line to the fill just before the rock cut, about 6 miles from Hi Line junction.
BTW, the consist in both of these shots are a bit unusual for the NN. Normally we see consolidation #93 hauling any kind of freight, while 10-wheeler #40 handles all passenger duties. This weekend we switched things up for some unique images.
