Are there do's and don'ts when selling a railroad book collection? I started buying books in the late 1970's, and most came from the CRRM, Caboose Hobbies (new and used items) as well as some from Gallagher and others on-line. I thought of train shows because I can bring them to a booth in one load and hopefully let a large group of people take a look. Do train shows get good results? The concern there is driving distance to the show location. I don't foresee train shows in the near future due to current events. I probably have the worst luck with e-bay in both selling and buying. I don't care much for the e-bay experience and shipping would be cost prohibitive as the heavy coated paper used in many of the books makes them heavy.
Anybody have an experience selling books that works for both parties? My desire is see them go to a younger person(s) getting started in learning more about railroad history. I shared my railroad interest experience with my Dad traveling all over Colorado in the 1960's exploring abandoned railroad grades. I'm no book collector so I just bought books and didn't just look for signed copies, and I would buy books with slight wear. I was going for content, not resale.
Thank you.
