In 1945, my family rode the San Juan from Durango to Alamosa (I was 5). We were in the parlor car and I remember my parents eating. I do not remember what I ate. My sister was baby and they kept the milk for her in the refrigerator. I think later they did not let kids ride the parlor cars as they served liquor.

Bob Richardson wrote that you could order a steak the day before and they would cook it for you on the parlor car. The riders in the coaches were on their own for eats.
