I have briefly studied the lateral devices on the larger K's (with a little help from Dylan). Were the 28's the same as the 36/37, or did Alco and Baldwin differ on how they tackled the problem?
I also know the pilot and trailing wheel sets have a built in "return to center." Is this considered swing motion, or is that only on trucks?
My brother and I are looking at building some larger engines. One of the problems faced in model railroads is having to build more slop in the engines for sharper turns. I have a few ideas on how to tackle this problem, but am still looking at all options I can. Some things don't scale well, either because of the limitations of materials or limitations of design. I don't think the prototype lateral will allow enough movement, along with sufficient strength to support an engine...
