Yup ,Harley made then for two years , 1939 and 1940 . They had a flash kerosene boiler where the v-2 usually is in the frame . A mini-marine reciprocating engine was directly under the saddle(!) Must have pounded the sense right out its rider ! Considering that these were Harley's heaviest bikes ever ,the rider had to be half gorilla . Well ,here is the legend that attends these unique bikes . Racers snapped them up .They were very fast bikes(steam supposedly has no top end) and this annoyed police departments from Bangor to Bisbee . So in 1940 an association of police chiefs threatened to take all their motorcycle orders to Harley's legendary competitor ,Indian .Harley quickly discontinued the steam powered line . They are rare- I saw one at a car show out at the LA County fairgrounds in Pomona many years ago .
