Skip,
You forgot to add the wonderful, precicely designed and accessable Car storage structure. The three ex-C&S passenger cars are isolated from the GLR mainline. It would also cost more money, time and the neccessary tools required to repair the three cars. Also add the cost to connect the Crystal barn to the mainline. Add that to the cost of #9 and the neccessity to find alternative cars and motive power?
The costs to operate keeps getting higher. The restart costs could easily amount to Millions of dollars if you factor in the use of the CHS equipment. Considering that the Ashby's have maximised capacity of the trains to about 8-9 cars per train. Now where do you find 18-20 passenger cars, diesel or steam locomotives?
This is still the first shots in the war. There is still a lot of time to see how this plays out. Still it will help if we all start to send emails to the CHS. Keep the tone of the letter positive and upbeat. If we send nasty letters they will all the more want to get a new operator or maybe rethink the railroad operation all together. Remember how the letter campaign went when the Norfolk Southern announced the end of steam. The letter writing to the BOD helped to seal the end of the steam program on NS.
