The greatest railroad event of my life took place, in part, on the Georgetown Loop. My little railroad in Iowa imbarked on an epic adventure to take our Model A ford ( ex Westside Lumber) and our Modal T Ford ( ex Argent Lumber) to railfest in 2001. On the way we overnighted at the little Super 8 down the "hill" from georgetown. The next morning we had made arangements to test the T and A on the loop. I can't tell you the excitement we all felt as flat-landers seeing that view from the drivers seats. These rail cars had been circling a park in Iowa for the last 30 years!!
Needless to say I have all the gradatude in the world for the Georgetown Loop. I wish them the best of luck and I will be taking my kids and wife to Georgetown for their first, and hopefully not there last, ride under the loop. And if my wife is reading this, I swear that I was going to talk to you about this first
If worst comes to worst I'm sure that the Midwest Central could find a spot in the shop next to the 9 for the 8, 12, and 14. Lets all hope it never comes to this. Long live the Loop.
