The lettering is centered on the water tank of the Vanderbilt tender as per standard Southern Pacific practice. If it was centered on the tender, it would have been partly on the oil tank.
It is only lettered on one side because that's all I've had time to do. I hope to get the right side Wednesday AM before our trip to Antonito.
Our fuel consumption started at about 1600 gal/day (on #2 fuel oil) and has been slowly dropping as we get used to the engine. Saturday we used 1260 gal.
It takes about 5000 gals of water each way. Thanks to the large tender that holds 10000 gals, we have plenty of water.
In Rio Grande days, in addition to Alamosa and La Veta, there were water tanks at Ft. Garland, Sierra and Codo. According to the only other guy in town who has run steam over La Veta (besides myself) he recalled that usually the passenger trains did not have to stop for water between Alamosa and La Veta.
