Well, it might not be the ALCOs in Durango that we are all waiting for but a Detroit diesel has arrived in Como.
As many of you already know, the South Park Rail Society has acquired a 20-ton Plymouth Locomotive for use in the expanding Como railyard. However, it is coming to Como in pieces. Thanks to Bob Schoppe we have now received the first piece of this locomotive. The motor. When we have it all put together, it will look a lot like the Pacific Coast Railway #120, but without the home made leading and trailing trucks.(picture at bottom)
.
The progress we have made so far has been the result by a number of people who have made donations to this project. To them, we owe a big "Thank You". It has been hard to find any grants that would support this project since its not historical to Colorado or original to Como. However, this little 20-ton locomotive is critical to our needs and having been built in the late 1920s, it should fit in with Como really well. And as always, Thank You to all who have supported the Como Project.
This is close to what the finished product will look like.
