I have long suspected that this was the story as well and I think the photograph of the engine in the pit bears this out. 485 From FOCTS Dorman Collection The engine made it a long way out onto the table and must have been moving at a fair clip. A slow creep from a leaky throttle seems unlikely to have gotten it that far out once it left the rails.
