The Quincy Western rang a bell in the back of my mind. I made a search in the California Digital Newspaper Collection and found several references in the 1909-17 time period. One of the oldest ones tells of starting to grade and names a Mr. Sexton as construction superintendent. In 1911 an article names J. E. Sexton as Manager. [I think this is the same John E. Sexton known from his management of the Eureka Nevada RR.]
About 1917-18 it was sold to a lumber company in town.
No idea about narrow gauge. But maybe someone was thinking what gauge to build the railroad.
