And to think it's out of a 645, too. Basically they've built a narrow gauge SD40-3. Initially when they announced so much power out of such a small carbody, I assumed the power plant would be a high speed diesel and alternator combination. Kind of like the "pissed off swarm of overloaded buses" sound you get out of the rebuilt Class 90s now...
I have to admit, the all blue WP&YR paint is, was, and always will be my favorite on the DL535s, but that's my first memories of them back in the 1980s and so it's stuck with me. These new units look really sharp in the yellow and green. I do wonder what motivated them to change paint schemes on the remaining units. I like the grey and red that Gil Bennett has in his painting of the new units, but it just doesn't scream "White Pass!" like the yellow/green does.
Hopefully at least some of the narrow gauge diesels coming off the WP&YR roster can find new homes and they don't all wind up as razor blades.
