We will have to agree to disagree. In your case, you have the satisfaction of having a better running machine at the end of the process.
In snow clearing operations, you have the dissatisfaction of seeing the switch you just shoveled out filled right back in as the plow train moves over it, sometimes repeated several times. Or the dissatisfaction of knowing that the forecast is for sixty degrees two days from now, or that the forecast is for high winds or two more feet of snow tonight, all of which means that your efforts are for naught.
At least with steam equipment, you always have sock dryers handy. I always packed a couple of pair of dry socks anytime I was called for a snow train, makes a huge difference. As a young man, I couldn't get enough. for the last ten years or so, I have been quite happy to let the youngsters take their turn.
