I heard somewhere that 497 could be restored after the cosmetic restoration of 483 is completed. If so the Special Projects group in Antonito could undertake it, like how they are currently undertaking the 1472 of 489.
I know the Cumbres & Toltec don't need 497 at the moment, since they have 4 K-36s and a K-27 that are more than adequate for their current needs, but the thing is, the more we see K-36s, the more hungry we are for an operational K-37. Anyway, neither 491 nor 493 are likely to visit the C&TS anytime in the future.
Also I have heard that 492's boiler is in better condition than 497's, so the shop crew were actually considering restoring her instead. Or the two engines could swap boilers.
