Some years ago, I visited the National Archives in the Washington DC area, where the original ICC railroad maps from the WWI era are kept. I requested to look at the map for the Wiscasset yard. I was shocked and disappointed when the map was brought out and it turned out to be a rather poor hand drawing that looked like the handy work of a third grader, with no measurement markings that were normal for every ICC track diagram I have ever seen before or since. Apparently, companies down on their luck could get an exemption when it came to cost of having actual survey maps made.
