Dale, the charter advertised HERE seems to indicate there is break in the line between Sibambe and Bucay, and a less serious one between Urbina and Quito. Also a careful reading of the Tren Ecuador itinerary suggests the Devils Nose is done with "patrimonio" sets, whatever that is (motor cars?), followed by a bus ride to Bucay or some such. But apparently they are operating both steam and diesel. But does sound like they may be headed downhill, so to speak.
