Thanks for the beautiful photos of the Alco PA set in Albuquerque. They would surely have been able to maintain an 80 mph pace to El Paso, track conditions allowing. That photo made me look for some of my Southern Pacific Alco PA photos. Only found one with a quick look - an Alco PA leading the westbound GOLDEN STATE, just about to roar out of Alamogordo for an 80 mph run to El Paso in 1957. When I rode the GOLDEN STATE from Alamogordo to Los Angeles in 1958 (via the long abandoned southern route thru Douglas), I am pretty sure we were Alco hauled, but I don't have photographic proof.
