Russo, doing some math, your photos must have been taken in the late 1950s or very early 1960s, when scrambling up scree slopes would have been a pretty casual thing to do. Your photos show a much more open Elk Park scene than today. As for Chris Walkers photo... I am pretty sure that there hasn't been a train of box cars in the upper canyon for a very long time. And thanks for JBWX's comment. As for scrambling up scree slopes, I wasn't quite done with it that afternoon. There were still two more down trains to go. I caught the second train from another scree slope about a 3/4 mile above Elk Park:

After this viewpoint I crossed the Animas River bridge and headed up the trail for this view of the Elk Park fall colors, and incidentally the third train
