I could easily see them using the heavier rail to utilize the “modular” crossing panels we have on the standard gauge ones we operate over.

I wonder why they have not tried to use some of the newer “composite” ties that are now on the market. I believe they will last longer, and would be better in a crossing so they don’t have to be removed and replaced as soon as a wood tie in a crossing application.
