Was an Air Force photographer/photojournalist for 22 years. Often could not use flash or a tripod as my subjects could blow up, a few times my subjects were shooting at me. Somewhere at Nikon HQ in NY is a Nikon 135mm lens that was hit by an AK47 while I was shooting with it in Cambodia. The lenses in those days were metal and tough. I kept the lens and it was on display in the Air Force photo school at Lowry Air Base in Denver. Nikon offered me $5000 for it but I refused. I finally made a deal with them to give the money to the Air Force dependent children scholarship fund. Got a bloody eye when the round hit the lens on the Nikon FTN. Could have been worse, if he had aimed two inches closer I would not be writing this.
