The week I was there, I did not see any hoppers of the rock leave town on the SLRG. There were loads on the siding to be picked up, and an occasional dump truck driving into the loading facility to unload. That one train during the week might have had 10 cars total, mostly covered hoppers from the one perlite plant is operating. The other cars might have been stored in the yard and were moving back to their owners.
I'm guessing the car storage business has slowed also. Too bad there isn't an opportunity to ship carloads of green agricultural products.
I have friends working at the CRF the next couple of days, I'll ask them to tell us what they see.
During the years of the SP, there were long trains, 5 days a week out of Antonito. Times have changed.
