Jimmy,

there only seems to be Prospect type mine activity immediately West of Canon City, some Flourite was found in the area. I doubt anything was extracted requiring rail service.

However the siding could have been put in during the construction ie widening for SG or for a support base for the construction of the Canon City water flume, whichever came first. Intake Siding on the South Platte for the HiLine Canal comes to mind.
