Goose 4 belongs to the Telluride Volunteer Fire Department. After we finished restoration in 2014 it went back to Telluride where it is on static display. We have permission from the Fire Department to operate it occasionally, which we did at the D&S railfest back in 2016 (not sure of the date, don't have that info in front of me right now). It costs quite a lot to move it, operate it and pay for additional liability insurance, so this will happen very rarely as this is beyond our regular operating budget, particularly during this period of building our operational loop, moving to our new location and restoring RGS coach 252.. We will move 4 to Ridgway by contracted semi the week before the October event, and it will go back to Telluride after the event. Hopefully we'll be focusing on RGS 36 by late next year, so it will probably be quite some time before 4 carries passengers again. So the October event is a rare chance to ride #4, it will be the first time carrying passengers in Ridgway in 68 years.

Just found out that Don Paulson will be leading his traditional two hikes along the Silverton Railroad route on red Mountain on the Thursday and Friday before the event. These run from the top of the pass to the end of track north of Ironton, half the distance each day. You cover pretty much ever inch of the railroad over that distance, including the Corkscrew Turntable.
