People still think that the railroad has bottomless pockets. They have no idea how much it costs just to keep the train in operation.
So the railroads get blamed for everything whether it is their fault or not. Now that Durango is a college and ski town, the fact that the without the railroad the town wouldn't be there doesn't matter to these people in the least. They have their soccer fields and their hiking and bike trails and that stinky old railroad is just a nuisance. It doesn't matter that the stinky old railroad kept the town alive before they moved there and initially drew people to live there.
Such is the current generation.
