Vauclain Compounds, by therevery nature only need one paire of main crank pins and crosshead/slidebars. This is because the "drive" from the two types of cylinders joind at the crosshead. This is in a symilar way to the Burrall patent single crank compound traction engines built in the UK. D O'Berrys book The Mudhens shows there arrangement very clearly.
