FWIW we have a film clip in our "Rio Grande Standard Gauge Steam" video showing a 4-6-2 at the depot in Montrose. This was a train that ran to Grand Junction and beyond, or connected with one there. I believe the date was around 1951, and it is from the Grandt film collection. Apparently there isn't much film(Movies that is) of steam in Montrose.

Here is our preview clip for the video. The scene at the depot is shown briefly at the 41-42 second mark, with a 700 series engine.
