Hank, your post got me to look up some of my old railroad tickets, just to see if maybe we shared the same train ride on August 5, 1965. Well, it turns out that I rode the SILVERTON train about 8 days earlier, on July 28, 1965. I don't have all my SILVERTON ticket stubs, but here are a few from 1965, 1966, 1967, and 1969 (my first SILVERTON train ride was in August 1959).
Just to place things in perspective as to ticket costs back then, here is a ticket on Southern Pacific's IMPERIAL from El Paso to Alamogordo on March 7, 1965, a distance of 85 miles for a ticket price of 50 cents.
