With fence posts, you may be able to keep the track in gauge, but it will never hold it's surface. That is the smoothness of the rail. You need something that "floats" the rail and will keep the weight of the equipment from making it disappear into the ground. I agree with Ron that ties would be best, but with the light weight of 24" Mine stuff, you should be able to get away with 6 x 6's, one fence post cut in half.
