Folks,
I spoke directly to Ed Dickens yesterday in Evanston. Both UP 4014 and UP 844 are burning waste motor oil, and both locomotives are fueled each night from a tanker truck. Water is provided from city hydrants and flows through fire hoses carried by UP in their Tool Car. The water is filtered through a special filtration system which is mounted inside the Tool Car. Boiler treatment chemicals are added there as well. The water then flows directly into the locomotive tenders and then overflows into the aux water cars.
