Jerry's comment about the big engines showing up in 26-27 got me to look for my 1938 profile thinking that perhaps the big engines were limited to certain areas.
However it seems that the Santa Fe Branch from north of No Agua all the way south was a mixture of 52, 57, 65 lb rail installed in the 1920-1928 time span with the largest majority put down in the 1924-26 time period.
Even so, there were stretches of 45lb south of Antonito to the top of the hill at Volcano at this late date, which I imagine remained until abandonment. With enough good ties and moderate speeds, 45 lb could hold up a K28.
