Can anybody here speak to cylinder head failures like this? The engineer in me really wants to know more. That hole in the cylinder head is a textbook-perfect shear failure.

If the piston itself failed first, wouldn't the high pressure side just be ported to the low pressure side? Things equalize at a lower pressure, so why the cylinder head failure?

OR

If the cylinder head fails first, you port high pressure to atmosphere. Why does the cylinder fail?

So many questions.
