Some times folio drawings were made by the newest draftsman.
I have seen small differences in lengths in different folios of the same car. This might result from the measuring tape not being taught or summing of shorter measurements to obtain the entire length.
From my years as a draftsman/designer with a water utility I have seen errors creep into "as built" plans because the field notes were not correctly interpreted. I have seen new construction plans miss existing conditions because of inattention of drafter when visiting the site.
Years ago I was with a friend and we were measuring the ex-Eureka & Palisades coach body near Bolder City Nevada. We measured the length of the car, measured the locations of the windows nearest both ends, measured the width of some windows and the posts between them. We made some quick calculations from the window widths and spacing and came up with a
difference in inches from the total length. We stepped back and looked at the car -- the center window was wider than the others!!! If we had not done the calculations and observed this difference while still with the car, we might have "fudged" the final sketch.
