It makes since that the D&RGW would have a locomotive hoist to load NG locos onto SG flat cars in the 1950's
The valley line connection between the Marshall Pass route/Monarch branch was severed in 1951.
NG operations continued out of Salida over the Marshall Pass route until 1955 or so, and the Monarch branch until it was converted to SG in 1956.
Loading the NG loco's onto flat cars and running them around on the SG was the only way to move the ng Locos between Salida and Alamosa from 1951 to 1956.
I am sure there was a similar hoist in Salida as well.
