When changing the gauge of a locomotive what has to be done to covert the locomotive to the new gauge? I can think
of four such conversions and would like to know how they were accomplished:
- A few K-27 were changed to standard gauge by N de M. When the Mexicans converted the K-27s to standard gauge did
they just move the wheels to the outside of the frames?
- Cortez Mines #10 (now restored and named "Anne Marie"). Was changed from 30" to 36" gauge during the restoration.
- WW&F #10 was a 30" plantation locomotive converted to 24". Did they just replace the crank pins with longer ones?
Rebuild the crosshead so the main rod could be moved inward? What was done?
- Roaring Camp #2 (Westside #3) Was converted to standard (How?) then years later changed back to narrow gauge by
using the trucks from Westside #4.
Are there any other such conversions out there? How were they done?
