. . . and of course, since #4458 and #4459 were S.P.'s last new steam engines for passenger service, there wasn't much of an argument for future use of roller bearings on steam 'cause there weren't any future steam engines to use them on.
OTOH, when ATSF #3751 was rebuilt a few years earlier (or more accurately, a new #3751 was built using a few parts from the original engine), she got roller bearings on all axles.

p.s. I presume the patent on the oil cellars has long since expired, or is the C&TS paying a royalty to the S.P. CMO's heirs?
