Chris Walker is correct to not call that Hunting. That is normal engine movement on narrow gauge track and is only evident because of the telephoto image. But a few years back the D&SNG Road Master was bragging about how cheap the bank-run gravel was that he found to use on the track. The problem was that it was all round stone gravel, and they are like building track on marbles. The gravel will not pack down hard but slips and moves by train traffic. Even if they use good crushed rock on the next raise, the round marbles will still be down in the subgrade to cause problem. The D&S discovered the problem and I believe that Road Master is history. The track someday will need to be skidded with a under track plow, and subgrade leveled to remove that junk. Then raise the track on new crushed stone that will pack harder. But that meadow has flooded many times for years so could always be a spongy subgrade. It is still a very safe right of way for narrow gauge engines and cars because of their light weight but will give a little more adventure in the car rocking till you get to Hermosa. The rail is good, it is just the subgrade.
