If I remember my Maine 2' history correctly the WW&F had plans, after they'd given up on reaching Quebec , to extend to connect with the SR&RL. So it wouldn't be without some sort of precedent...

Interesting to contemplate how the history of both roads might have changed if it had happened. Maybe they would have lasted another ten years or so?
