There were a number of unusual events with this freight run ( most of this info is from the Iron Horse News)
December 6, Since there was no helper for the run from Gato to Falfa, 4 box cars of drill mud were set out at Gato.
December 7, 497 made a roundtrip to Farmington with the remaining loads
December 11, 497 and 473 were made ready for a run to Chama, but waited
December 13, It was still snowing , so the run to Chama was cancelled ( I drove to Durango that day, and on the morning of the 14th took the attached photos)
December 18, 473 switched the loaded cars (presumably lumber) for transfer to trucks
December 19, 497 headed east to get the four cars at Gato, but derailed on snow and ice at Falfa about 10 am. 473 was readied for the rescue, but was delayed by the turntable pit being full of
snow that had to be cleared first . 473 finally left at noon , and pulled 497 back on the track. 473 was back at Durango by late afternoon. 497 brought the four cars to Durango.
December 27, 497 made a roundtrip to Farmington, setting out the four cars of drill mud (this was the last run for 497 on the Rio Grande)
December 29, 497 and 473 were killed for the winter
