I have always wondered where the siding at Amargo was located. For some reason I assumed it was east of the most-eastern road crossing at the mouth of the canyon. At one time the Jicarilla Apache Reservation was headquartered at Amargo, before being moved to Dulce.
The depot at Amargo got moved to Gato, not Lumberton.
The shots Olaf got of 497 heading west on Dec. 6, 1967 are historic as that was the last day 497 ran west out of Chama. 497 was fired up in December to run east, but the run was cancelled because of bad weather.
