Alamosa NG Motel and River- ?

A common chord among us might be struck perhaps by mentioning the "Father of NG railfanning", that being Bob Richardson. After driving by his former Motel several times just south of Alamosa, there's some curiosity about what the status of that place is, the few pieces of equipment there, and who the current owner is. I don't think the business was ever open during the years I've visited the SLV. Probably Chile John or someone else knows about it.
Oh, another subject, I drove down the canyon of the Alamosa River on Sunday. I see the signs stating that the river is polluted, it's obvious when one sees the rust-coloration on everything that the river has touched at some time. Below the Terrace Reservoir, it's slightly less colored. It seems that the Alamosa River just disappears someplace by Capulin or thereabouts, because it's not visible nor on a map. Does it run underground?
Narrow gauge country is fascinating. Thanks in advance for your comments.
