> The day after Thanksgiving I (we?) chased 484 from Durango to Farmington under virtually balmy conditions.
> That's Colorado/New Mexico for you.
Olaf, your pictures point out how things can be radically different at various altitudes. Reminds me of a trip from Colorado Springs to Chama with my son:
- Drive to Walsenburg: Clear, temp in the 60s.
- Over LaVeta Pass: Socked in with snow, tractor trailers were sliding backward on the road. We just slowly trundled over in the Subaru...
- Into Alamosa: Clear, temp in the 60s. I'd never driven over Manga/Cumbres passes, so we elected to proceed west over Wolf Creek to Pagosa Springs, then back to Chama.
- Over Wolf Creek Pass: Socked in with snow. At the pass, we encountered a truck pulling a boat that slid off the road, the only thing that kept them from the abyss was that the boat got tangled up in the guardrail.
- Pagosa to Chama: Clear, but temps had fallen into the 30s.
Posting mainly to give folks who come to Colorado and drive the ng country a sense for how it can change by altitude, even in the same day...
