John, I completely agree.
For lack of a better word, I was not able to "hide" behind the vivid and vibrant colors on this trip; especially with the bluebird skies.
I shot RAW, which captures color images to the memory cards. But the camera's electronic viewfinder was set to black/white, so I was seeing the scene in monochrome before I took the photo - an incredibly valuable visual aid.
The conversion to black/white was done via adjustment layers in Photoshop afterwards.
