A follow up to the earlier posting. The attached file is from work Paul and I did reviewing RGS Dispachers Train Sheets that are stored at the CRRM Library. Each year in the collection is not complete but we were able to put together a sampling of locomotives in use from 1940 and 1941. We were interested in when RGS 20 was shopped and returned to service wearing the "Rio Grande Southern" spelled out on the tender and when 455 returned to service after being shopped wearing the Sunrise Herald. We also included a column for the Geese.
20's break-in run from Ridgway was Sept 22, 1940. 455's break-in run from Ridgway was March 29, 1941. 25 was taken out of service at the end of June 1940. 40 was out of service then came back at the end of May but seemed to have a lot of problems.
Goose 4 was wrecked on May 12, 1941. I think this was the wreck where she lost her Pierce Arrow fenders.
There were some significant floods that occured in early 1941 that cut the RR into two pieces. You can follow all the work trains and when things were restored to operation in the comments section.
