Well Led Zeppelin was one of my favorites for years. I finally got to see them live in about 1976 in Cincinnati, and thought the concert sucked! I guess I liked the first two albums the best...Livin Lovin, Ramble On, Thank You, etc. When Robert Plants voice got deeper, it kinda lost the feel of LZ for me...Still like them though.
One group I liked was the Allman Brothers band, and the dual guitar sound(not to mention dual drummers. I remember sitting in my music appreciation class in college, and a guy from a local band giving me the news Duane Allman had been killed in a motorcycle wreck.
Now for another favorite related to above. Cream...with Eric Clapton. They were big when I was in High School...and another spinoff was Derick and the Dominios with Clapton and Duane Allman...Some nice guitar licks there as well.
Now for another odd one...How about the guitar players in BOSTON, and don't laugh...JOURNEY...
I listened to them a lot when working out, and there are some really exceptional guitar licks in the middle of some tunes that grow on you.
Isn't it interesting how so many of these groups or soloists are still out there performing today. Much of that music has stayed with us with time, while some of the worthless stuff later has faded...who doesn't want to forget disco?
What can be finer than driving cross-country to see steam, and listening to some good tunes on the 8-track(remember them), or the radio.
Cheers,
Greg Scholl
