I was never into jazz much at all, but my dad was.
He worked in the music business during the 30's in NY, working for Decca, and Victor, and did some record producing with Bing Crosby before he was really big. He also did articles for downbeat, and Melody Maker Magazine, and did the writeups on the back of albums for some recordings. He knew the big band guys real well including Paul Whiteman. He could listen to a big band like whiteman and tell you who played what on each cut. At one time he had a huge 78 collection.
Personally I liked hard and soft rock the best, but like with trains I am kinda picky. For example HEARTS Bad Animals record, I like just about all except for "Bad Animals" the title song.
On many albums or CD's I like only a couple of tunes. One of my favorite albums of the mid-late 70's was Frampton Comes alive, which I think is still the biggest selling live album. I normally don't like live albums, unless its someone I really like. Heart does some good live music too. I like some of their soft stuff, but mainly their rock numbers like Magic Man, Barracuda,Crazy on you, etc.
Also like Bostons early album, and one that I would love to do a train music video on is "Hitchin a ride" great guitar stuff on that one at the end.
Guess we are wandering far away from narrow gauge hear, huh!
