I think that's because at least a few of us who post here – unlike with the EBT or Sumpter Valley or Westside Lumber – actually saw the D&RGW when it was still an active class-one freight-hauling railroad, running at least a couple of times a week through some spectacular and very photogenic country. Plus, the Silverton Train has been hauling large numbers of tourists, also through some spectacular country, for well over half a century — so far more people are familiar with the ex-D&RGW lines than those which were pretty much gone by 1960 or even before.

I live in Ventura, California -
Several hundred miles farther from the SVRy than my fellow Curmudgeon the JéBêWèX, and even I have managed a visit — see [
ngdiscussion.net]. You owe it to yourself – and to the SVRy – to get yourself down there!! Believe me, you will NOT regret the extra few miles — most of which will be through areas worth seeing in their own right.
