Speaking of tender-first hauled steam, I have at least one (maybe two), trains in Germany with doubleheaders where one or both engines were running
tender first. One is a passenger train, and I think I have one on a freight as well. Over there I think they blew once to depart, but many times the conductor would blow his whistle
and off they would go. My stuff from the 70's is all silent anyway. Sometime I might try to upload a few odd clips.
